Update from new owners: Blackator ponies Belle and Breeze

Just had a lovely update this morning from the couple who bought Blackator Belle and Blackator Breeze from us a few years ago, both Dartmoor Heritage Ponies are turning four years old this summer and will be broken to harness soon (looking forward to seeing those photos!).

"Nothing phases either of them – they will lie down and go to sleep right next to where we are chain sawing and chopping wood – they always have to know what is going on. They were both brilliant with the... farrier from the very first time so that is good! They are both very vocal and always scream their heads off at mealtimes and if we have been out – when we get home – which is great. So all in all, yes we are very happy with them thank you."

Thanks for the update! We are very proud of our home-bred ponies and extremely pleased that they have found a loving home.

Dartmoor Pony Training Feb 2014

Comments from the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust Visitor Centre at Bovey Tracey:

“Monday morning a delightful strawberry roan filly and dark bay colt foal with a large star arrived at the centre for handling. Now Thursday morning, they have had their feet picked out and lightly trimmed. They are both very easy to handle with excellent temperaments, these two would make excellent childrens riding or driving ponies. The lad has really big strong knees and a delightful manner. The filly is particularly easy to lead considering they have only had a few hours work on them. Been a while since we had such easy foals to start. They have been a pleasure to work with; it will be a sad moment to say goodbye to them later today when Hannah and Luke Fursdon will take them home until we find them a suitable family to live with.”

2012 Dartmoor pony colts castrated

Dartmoor pony castrations went exceptionally well today: Dexter, Dallas, Dante and Dundee all offically geldings.

For completely unhandled yearlings they were all very quiet and well behaved, just shows that breeding from quiet mares and a ...calm stallion works fabulously for producing great youngstock.

Now cracking on with a bit of handling, foot trimming and worming before they go off conservation grazing for a few years. In the meantime, four very sleepy ponies in the yard...
